My first day
Today was the first day of my internship and I think I'm going to love it. The internship part is going to be hard, very very hard. But that's all part of learning right. I'm going to get lost in the medical center probably all year, I had absolutely no bearings when they were taking us around. We get free food anytime day or night. And that includes the meals they prepare, any countless number of snacks, fruit, carrot and celery sticks, poptarts, pop, cookies, muffins, cheez-its, etc. etc. and we can go in anytime and use the ingredients they have to make any meal we want in the kitchen. The interns from last year told us they just use it as their grocery store. At the beginning of the week they go get a bag of bagels, a thing of cream cheese, cereal, milk, etc. I knew we got free meals but I had no idea it would be anything like that! I don't know how they can possibly make money with us rummaging through the kitchen all day long making snacks, meals, etc. and taking back anything we want to our apartments...oh well, it'll save Derek and I on food because they don't care how much food you take. Unbelievable, huh? Especially since when I worked at Parkview if I even took an apple from the cooler I was exected to pay (not that I did, but still I was expected too LOL).
The other interns are absolutely great! And it's a good thing because they are the only people I know in Peoria, or in Illinois for that matter. There are two girls named Brooke and Katrina who live together in an apartment near ours and they are both great. Us 3 were together most of the day and got along great, especially Brooke and I. Then there's Eva who's from Hong Kong and is super sweet, but doesn't really say much at all. Lastly, there's Jeff. He's from Mississippi and seems really nice, but he neeeeeever and I mean NEVER shuts up. He's hilarious so it was nice to have someone there to avoid akward silences today and to make us laugh when we were all terribly nervous...but I mean he NEVER shuts up. It took me a few hours to stop being annoyed with him. Now I'm used to it and I realize it's just his personality, but at first I wanted nothing more for him to just shut up. Now I just have come to appreiate that he's just a Southern goofball. Anyways, all of the interns are great and I think I'll get along with them all wonderfully.
I don't have much else to say about it after one day. Today was just a lot of web based training and we also took the RD exam to see how little we know. Hopefully when I'm done I'll actually know something about nutrition. Well, I'm off to bed really early tonight because I am both physically and mentally exhausted. I don't know how I'm going to make it through a full week.
This weekend will be fun though because my mom, dad, Troy, and his girlfriend Casey are all staying for the weekend. Anyone want to come visit next weekend???
