Quality time at the ER

Thursday night Derek and I went home to VW. We decided to go home this weekend so we could watch Morgan play volleyball once this year. (She is on VW's Freshman team) Unfortunately, Derek has to teach Sunday school every Sunday this month so I took a day off work and we left Thursday night and came back today. (Saturday) So Friday I spent all day with my family and Derek spent it with his. My mom and I went shopping, which is always fun! Then, when we got back my dad came in from working outside and told us he had a "health problem." He then proceeded to open his mouth and show us his tongue which was swollen, so much that it was about as thick as it was wide. He then explained (in a voice that sounded like he had just pierced his tongue) that he was drinking out of his McDonalds cup and something was stuck in his straw. So he sucked harder and whatever was lodged in his straw came up, landed on his tongue, and walked across it and stung him. It had been a bee! So my mom and I forced him to go to the ER because if it became much more swollen it could have blocked his airway. So I got to spend some good quality time with my dad at the ER. Luckily, it didn't get much worse and a shot of prednisone and some benadryl helped the swelling go down a little, but it was funny while it lasted! My mom had to ask the Dr. if he needed an interpreter because my dad was really hard to understand. Although my mom and I were both a little worried, we couldn't help but laugh! So that was my exciting afternoon. Then we went out to eat with my brother and one of his friends and just hung out that night at home.

I also received a drunken phone call from all of the interns that night. The new interns had come that day (I missed it) and they all went out with the internship director and then on to a club. So they called me to tell me how much they missed me and about how we're all going to take a trip to New York City to see Sarah Jessica Parker. It was quite humorous! I'm sad I missed it. Although I would have been sober laughing at them, not drunk with them. It's more fun to remain sober and remember the stupid things they did to hold it against them later.

Then today, we went to watch Morgan play volleyball in a tournament. Then we had to come home so we got back in time to watch the Ohio State game. My mom called me on the ride home to inform me she met Erin Miller. Apparently she works at 10 Thousand Villages in Goshen. And she was wearing a Bluffton University shirt so my mom struck up a conversation!

Well, tomorrow will be a busy day of church and napping. I can't wait! And I can't wait for this weekend either!!

Well I'm glad your dad is ok now! That sounds like a very unpleasant injury. And I would just like to say that I think Sundays filled with church & napping are wonderful!
