If you ever find happiness by hunting for it, you will find it as the old woman did her lost spectacles. Safe on her own nose all the time. ~ Josh Billings

Blessed

Every once in a while, God sends me something to make me realize that I am incredibly blessed. This time it was Christmas caroling. Of course when I found out I had to spend my Sunday evening Christmas caroling I was not pleased. But I went and sadly I probably had a bad attitude. But that ended very quickly when we went to see the first woman on our list. She was an elderly woman living in an apartment facility for senior citizens. She used to go to our church but cannot get out any more. When we started singing, she started crying. She was so happy just for us to go and sing to her. (And trust me, we're were far from choir quality) Then when we were done, she asked us to go down the hall to sing to a friend of hers, who also cried because she was so happy. Almost everyone we sang to cried, or gave us cookies, or asked us to go down the hall or down the road to sing to someone else. It was such a blessing for me to go and sing to these people. They all appreciated it so much! I realized how much I have, because most of them have no family, cannot leave the house and do things, and many were also in poor health. One other great thing was my group. Whoever showed up to carol was split into groups randomly. In our group was a woman and her 8 year old daughter and 12 year old son. At first they talked about the 8 year old singing a solo, and I assumed they were joking...but I was wrong, she sang many solos. She wasn't the greatest singer, but she was good. But most importantly, at 8 years old she was willing to sing solos to these people, which even I wasn't willing to do. I had so much respect for this amazing 8 year old girl. And I know she was a blessing to all of the people we sang for. I think they all enjoyed her singing the best.

What a great idea for service! Not only did you bless others, but you were blessed as well! Yeah for singing!

That's one of the great things about service. Not only are you helping those who you serve, but you are really helping yourself. It is a great way to grow spiritually.
And..remember that time we went caroling at the Mennonite Memorial home? lol
