A "Blue" Christmas

I just had to tell you about a church service I went to yesterday. It was the most amazing service I have ever been to. It was called a "Blue" Christmas service. Have any of you ever heard of it? I guess sometimes it is called the "Longest Night" service? If you have never heard of it, like I had not, I'll explain it. Although everyone is welcome, it's mainly for those who do not feel joyous and jolly at Christmas time, whether it be because of a death in the family, depression, divorce, or multiple other things. So although none of these were the case for me, I went because Derek was going to sing. There only ended up being about 15 people there, but it was incredible. About 99% of the service was just silent time or just really quiet piano music, mainly just time for reflection, meditation, and prayer. The pastor only talked for about 5 minutes and Derek sang Untitled Hymn by Chris Rice, but like I said the majority was just quiet. It was just incredible, I can't even describe how it felt, but I'm sure you can imagine. Sadly we never have time to just be quiet and pray and reflect like I did last night. I wish more services were like that one. If you ever have a chance to go to a service like this or somehow arrange time like this, I highly recommend this. It's good for the soul :)

On another note, for any Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe fans...I went to a Lebanese grocery store today and saw Turkish Delight so I bought some. And I have to say it is delicious!!! (Not good enough to become devoted to the witch Jadis, but delicious!)

I've never heard of such a thing, but I can see how the idea would be very good. I'm glad you had such a great experience.

that service does sound really neat. I've beeen reading books lately that say how important it is to set aside time for silence and prayer, something we find so hard to do in our busy lives!

I like Catholic church. We get some quiet time. But yeah - people need that balance. Not all worship is happy.
