If you ever find happiness by hunting for it, you will find it as the old woman did her lost spectacles. Safe on her own nose all the time. ~ Josh Billings

Well, I've done so much since my last entry, I can't really decide where to start...
First off, my parents came a few weeks ago for the weekend and it was so great to see them! We didn't do a whole lot (because there's not a lot do to around here) but we still had a great time. One fun thing we did was go to a restaurant called Alexanders which is really famous in Peoria. It's a really cool steak house in some kind of old factory right on the river and you can grill your own steak/chicken/kabobs/etc and texas toast. I thought it was a lot of fun, my dad wasn't such a fan, feeling at a restaurant they should cook your food, but I liked it because it was different. So that was something new we tried.
Then over Labor Day weekend Derek and I did absolutely nothing, which was exactly what I wanted. It was nice to just take a break, walk the dog, read some books, etc. Unfortunately, I had to work on Labor Day. It really is too bad they can't shut down the hospital and send everyone home on Holidays! So while everyone was BBQing and hanging out, I was working, but oh well. I could have taken the day off, but I'm saving my vacation days to go home at Christmas and hopefully go on a vacation in the spring. (Jo, I'm still working on Derek...we'll see)
Speaking of work, it's going really well. I really do love my job (at least most days) One of my coworkers who works on the Pediatric ICU doesn't understand why I like working with the elderly so much but I think it's my niche. For some reason I really like it better than other areas. Of course, not all of my patients are elderly, but I would say the majority are.
I have found one downfall to being a dietitian however...all of my coworkers are women. I know that's a terrible thing to say, but our office is full of too much estrogen. Imagine 15 women working in one office, no men to lighten the mood...it can get quite tense, especially since there's always someone pregnant as well :) Speaking of pregnancy, one of my friends that is also a dietitian had a baby yesterday so today I went up and visited her and the baby! I got to hold him and he was just so beautiful...it made me want to have one of my own...then I was quickly brought back to my senses by helping Derek with the first youth group of the fall...working with Jr high kids can be good birth control LOL

Oh another downfall to my job I forgot to mention. Ever since I started my job I've been gaining weight. Every other dietitian I've talked to has had the same problem...hmmm, does that seem ironic to anyone else?

I thought you were going to say "speaking of pregnancy...I'm pregnant!" ha ha that would be awesome! I'm glad you have found your niche with the elderly people. Some people do enjoy it, I'm not sure if I would or not, maybe I'll stick to kids. But I agree being around junior high kids reminds me that I don't want to have one of my own anytime soon!

I could see how you would think that! Sorry about getting anyone excited, I didn't do that on purpose!

I don't know Abby. You better be careful around those Jr. High kids. I worked with them all last year, and now we have Trevor! :)

High schoolers work as birth control too!! (But I must admit Robb had to settle me down after going to visit Laura and Trevor the other day!)
