Lumberjacks, Hospitals, and Baked Potatoes
Well, this weekend was actually very eventful. Friday night my parents got here and helped us move that night and a little more on Saturday morning. We kind of have stuff settled, but there's still a lot of boxes full of miscellaneous things and one missing shoe, etc. I'm sure by the end of the week we'll have it all sorted out. I really like living in a house again, but I'm not sure about Pekin yet.
Well, while we were moving in on Saturday, the pastor came and gave us tickets for a free lunch at the Marigold Festival, which is a huge city wide festival this weekend. So we headed up there, with the intentions of just eating lunch but it was such a cool festival we ended up being there for hours. Most of the time was spent at the lumberjack show. We saw them chop wood, carve wood into a bunny, do those crazy log roll competitions, and the telephone pole climb thing where they climb up real fast then fly down to the ground again. Anyone ever seen them on tv?? It was actually really cool! I was impressed...
Saturday night was the big Ohio State vs. Texas game and for those of you who don't know, Ohio State lost which of course means Derek was and still is heart broken. Then this morning me, Derek, and my mom and dad all went to the church Derek will be working at and we were introduced and had to stand in the front at the end of church and get greeted by everyone. I remember 2 names...not bad for the first day?!? Well then we had lunch with my parents before they left, then back to clean the apartment out. After that we went to the animal shelter in Pekin to look at puppies and I found one that I absolutely love. We want a puppy, but we want a dog that will get big. I found a black lab puppy that is super sweet. It was a stray so they can't give it away for a few more days to give time for the rightful owners to claim it, but it's already been there about 5 days and no one has. Then if no one claims it by Tuesday, we're first on the list to adopt it if we want. (I want to, but I'm nervous about having a dog again-it's a lot of responsiblity, especially with potty training a puppy) So, as of now I'm not sure what we're going to do, but I really loooove the puppy, whose name by the way is Sarah. I'm going to put a picture for you all to see.
Then after the animal shelter we headed to the hospital's Urgent Care so Derek could finally see a doctor, since he's been sick for almost a week. Well, it turns out he has a bacterial infection in his throat and is now on antibiotics. Unfortunately, we had to wait about 2 hours to find that out, but oh well...We saw all kinds of people in need of Urgent Care there, for example a girl who had one of those industrial staples in her foot, and a guy who cut his finger down to the bone...maybe that's why Derek had to wait so long, his case wasn't quite so "urgent." Then today when we got back from the hospital and Walgreens, there was a bag of baked potatoes (from the churches baked potato bar at the Marigold Festival) and some water and pop at our doorstep. I'm going to love people from the church taking care of us like that!
