If you ever find happiness by hunting for it, you will find it as the old woman did her lost spectacles. Safe on her own nose all the time. ~ Josh Billings

Wrigley

Derek's birthday was a few weeks ago so I got him tickets to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play the Reds. The game was yesterday so I took off work and we took a day trip to Chicago. It was a lot of fun, except the driving to and from the game. We also couldn't find a place to park, were running late and saw no options but to pay a very shady looking character $25 to park in an alley right below the L. So we spent the whole game worrying whether our car would be where we left it or not. (and it was, thank God!) So the game was pretty boring, the Reds won 4-0, but it was so cool to be in Wrigley Field. Derek loved it so it was worth all the trouble of driving in crazy Chicago taffic and sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for hours. We also spent quite a bit of money to get good tickets, really close, which was great, except everyone around us was very wealthy and proved to be very annoying.

We sat by a bunch of couples who were friends. From the very beginning of the game, they began betting on every batter, mainly just a few dollars at a time...however, then they moved up to the big bucks. They basically stopped watching the baseball game and began playing a game of their own, a strange version of Bull Shit. It involved using $1 bills and betting on how many of a particular number you have in the serial number of your bill. I couldn't quite follow exactly how they were playing, but they had a "pot" in the middle full of money and everytime someone was caught Bull shitting the others they had to match the pot, so the pot started with a few dollars, but kept being doubled, and doubled and doubled, until about the 5th inning when the woman next to me started whipping out $100 bills!?!?! If they were so wealthy they had nothing better to do with their money than bet on if their friend truly had "7 6's" on her $1 bill, they could have given it to Derek and I. We were broke after spending $23 dollars on some sodas, hot dogs, and a pretzel! So anyways, I have learned what I already knew, there are people in the world with lots of money to blow, and instead of doing something wonderful with it, like building homes for the homeless or feeding the poor, they waste it. I also overheard their plans of what to do with the money they had left over after their gambling or the money they won, a shopping spree on Michigan avenue of course! If I'm ever rich and can't find something better to do with my money, feel free to whack me over the head with my Prada purse!

If you ever become one of them, believe me, I will whack you over the head with your Prada purse! However, I don't think I need to worry about that with you

Why because I won't be rich or because I won't waste my money? LOL

This story is both amusing and sad. I just can't help but think that very poor people must view us in the same way that we view the people wealthier than us.

90% of Bangladeshis make less than $15 a month, and people are throwing around $100s? How did this happen?

I meant if you get rich, you won't waste your money :) I mean it is unlikely that any of us will be rich, but hey, it could happen..you and derek could win the lottery or something...

Wow. That sounds like a fun trip, but wow - I hope I never get that bad. It's one thing to splurge once and a while and attend a game at Wrigley, but it's quit another to throw down $100 for Bullshit!
Grr. The lust of money really is the root of all evil!!

Just in case you were wondering, when I said we spent "a lot" of money for our tickets...both of them combined were still under the $100 that lady laid down!
